Here's a special treat for you.  Many of you may have heard the Live from Japan album by JD Crowe & the New South recorded in 1979.  It contained 14 songs.  I have found the original full recording of the concert! There were 25 songs performed that night.  Here they all are, in the order they performed them!

Here is a playlist (18 songs) of the The Osborne Brothers​ from the Camp Springs Bluegrass festival in 1971. They were pushing the boundaries of bluegrass by adding drums to their live show and were at the top of their game.  Rocky Top was just becoming popular.  They also performed all of their big hits like Ruby, Roll Muddy River, Listening To the Rain, and more. Here is rare footage of JD Crowe & the New South from a bluegrass festival in 1972.  It's the earliest live performance that featured the drums that I have found. They definitely give the music a different feel.  WARNING: Make sure that you are not driving while listening to Freeborn Man or you may get a speeding ticket!

This is a special segment from the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival in 1979 where Earl Scruggs plays a few song with Bill Monroe & the Bluegrass Boys.  This is a very rare and special reunion that happened just a few months after Lester Flatt''s death.

The completion of a SUPERGROUP! As far as I know, this is Jerry Douglas' first appearance with JD Crowe & The New South​ at the Centerville Bluegrass Festival in Virginia on 1-24-1975.  Apparently, Jerry was not yet a full time member of the group at this point.  His addition finalized what many consider one of the best bluegrass lineups in history:

Here's a great set from another ALL-STAR lineup of Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver​ from 1987. 14 songs that display the stellar lead vocals of Russell Moore, the technical skills of the newest recipient of the Steve Martin Prize For Excellence In Banjo and Bluegrass, Scott Vestal​, and the wonderful harmony and arrangements that Doyle Lawson​ has been known for nearly 40 years. There are some great a capella gospel numbers that also features Ray Deaton on the bass vocals. Enjoy!

JD picked up that lick from a lick Buck Owens used when playing guitar with Tommy Collins on songs like "Watcha gonna do now" and "You Better Not do That".

That lick predates Buck Owens.  Reno played almost the same one as well.

This is a great set by the Country Gentlemen at the Camp Springs Bluegrass Festival in Reidsville, NC, on Labor Day Weekend in 1971. You can hear classics like "Fox On the Run" and "Matterhorn," as well as two great banjo instrumentals by Bill Emerson, "Cowboys & Indians" and "Theme Time." There's also a great gospel number, "He Will Set Your Fields On Fire." This is the one of the first performances after Doyle Lawson joined the band. What an ALL-STAR lineup! Enjoy!

Continental Divide was a great bluegrass group in the late 90's. They featured something for every type of bluegrass fan: Flatt and Scruggs songs, country flavored tunes, extended "jam band" style instrumentals. David Parmley is one of the best lead singers in the business and Scott Vestal is among the best banjoists in the world. These songs feature modern takes on traditional classics. I think you will enjoy!
