No, that was serial number1427. GREAT five. Even diehard Gibsonites were trying to buy it from me. The Sunfower lost in the fire was the one Geoff built to replace the stolen banjo.

Just wanting to remind everyone Jack is not the only loser in this tragedy. We need to help our own, but we also need to help others as well. It's part of our Volunteer spirit and heritage in East Tennessee. Jack, I live in Maryville, and work in Knoxville. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Take care and God Bless.

Yes, it is good to know that there are  nation wide programs to aid the fire victims. But keep in mind, I just heard this morning, that insurance will cover only the materials that Jack put into his barn. they will not cover rebuilding and that his inventory in is business was not covered. He is in to a 6 figure loss!  I doubt there are many businesses in that situation. Again, I agree it is good to help our own.

I would like to ask a favor...those who have purchased my tablatures arrangements over the years...If you can email me  a list of the tabs you have (indicating ability level and style:, Scruggs, melodic, etc.) I may ask you to send me the original and keep a copy for yourself. I am particularly interested in the 650 or so that had not yet been computer typeset. These I DEFINITELY have no backup for. Please do not send tabs until I see your list and request specific titles... no need to duplicate efforts a dozen times.

Easier than listing in an email: Stack them up like dominoes with only the title info at the top showing and take a photo with your phone, email me the pic.  email:   jack@hatfieldmusic.com

I have conferred with my printer, and reprinting of my Bluegrass Banjo Methods books one, two and three, and Hatfield Banjo, Intro to Irish and Celtic, Scruggs Corner are in the works.  Probably will not have them in time for Christmas, but anybody who wants to order now and does not mind waiting a few weeks, have at it. Many of my tab collections such as Christmas Collection, Gospel Collection, TV and Movie Themes, and Classic Bluegrass Vocals are already available.

I'm a long time lurker here, but very rarely post, so I don't have the reputation of many of the regular posters. That said, Jack is sincerely one of the nicest, hardest working, most devoted men I've ever met. Jack's Smoky Mountain Banjo Academy is without a doubt the highlight of my banjo life. In one weekend I got to meet, learn from, play with, and socialize with the likes of Sammy Shelor, Ron Block, Kristin Scott Benson, Butch Robbins, Tom Nechville, Randall Morton, Biscuit Davis, and more. I became close friends with folks I never would've met otherwise. Jack works hard to bring banjo celebrities and us "common folk" banjo players together. Jack IS banjo. I've never met a more gracious human being.

I would just like to wish everybody who have responded to my situation with well wishes and offers to help, and with donations.  It is amazing how many have stepped forward in the banjo community. Even more amazing are  the folks I barely know or have never met. This humbles me and renews my faith in people’s capacity for compassion. I wish I could repay the kindness some day to each one of you. I am trying to  paying it forward and will continue to do so. The Fire on the Mountain Bluegrass Jam Benefit concert I organized Friday raised around $5,000. for the wildfire victims less fortunate than me. Merry Christmas!

Just donated to the raffle.  Glad to do so. Encourage all to do so.   If I win, you guys can re-raffle the banjo to help further.  Mr. Hatfield's book was the one my teacher used for my banjo lessons.  Good teacher.  Love his banjos.  Anticipate getting back into banjo lessons soon.  Hope he gets back up and running soon.

Just sent donation today. Best wishes to Jack in getting things back where he wants them.

I own the "Backup" book and CD's, but really really really need to carve out specific time to practice backup. Temptation is always too great, to try and get that solo down for the latest unfamiliar tune that someone called at the jam.

Side note to Tom Nechville -- No need to ship that Flex-Tone -- I work nearby, very close to Nechville Music shop. Happy to just pick it up if I'm fortunate enough to get my name pulled at raffle time!!

Tom - you can practice backup AND lead at the same time. The CD's for the backup book contain the band tracks, you add the banjo (assuming you have a stereo player, right track is rhythm, left track is banjo), yo can turn the balamce all the way to the right and play ALL the banjo parts...kickoffs,  solos AND backup.
