I subscribed to Tabledit.  My subscription went to Rochester NY and my payment to somebody in France.  I found that subscription procedure strange.  The guy in France must have to tell the guy in NY that they received payment before I can become a subscriber.   When I buy software I usually just provide the information and credit card info, receive an email with a link, execute the link and get the software downloading and installed.  I want to try the software with some ".bjo" tab files but need the full version of Tabledit to do this.  Guess I will just sit here waiting for the email that contains the information I need to install Tabledit and get it working.

How long did it take to get your version of Tabledit working ?

It might take several days.  I will put this question in the Tab Forum where most of the Tabledit stuff is and maybe the owner of Tabledit will see it and respond.

I have the shareware version and it does most of what I want. Took about 5 minutes.

Old Hickory - Posted - 10/06/2016:  16:38:29

I believe it takes the paid version to be able to save files of longer than 16 measures, to print without a watermark and to open files in a variety of other tab software formats.

As to the purchase process:  My paid copy was a birthday present from my son. It took a while to get the registration code working (I forget what the issue was) and the TablEdit folks couldn't understand that my son was paying for a copy that would be registered in someone else's name. My son is still the registered owner.

Yes the license code is not auto generated. Some guy has to send you an email. .Can take a few days

And here is was, sitting in my chair, watching my email, and waiting for a reply.

Tabledit does need a forum.  Users with common problems are sometime able to communicate and solve a problem.

Hi Richard

The guy in France is the software programmer. I believe the guy from Rochester deals with admin issues for English language users.

There is a TablEdit User Group on Yahoo, but I think you will find you get better advice / support from users here on the Hangout

Tam - You are correct, this website serves the Tabledit user better than their forum. Is the "Registration Key" the email refers to the same thing as (1) user I.D. and (2) password ? My email didn't contain any "Registration Key".

The Youtube instructionals help some. It was easy to print just notation. But, is there any way to eliminate chords ? I don't want 14 page tabs for a single tune. The name of the chords helps, but chord diagrams aren't needed. I am trying to "whittle" tabs for each tune down to a couple of pages. I seen any discussion on this, but I can't be the only person trying to accomplish this. You would need 3 hands to use a 14 page tab. Two hands to play the banjo and another to turn the pages.

When I uninstalled the free viewer, there was a problem and it wasn't completely removed. I sent "keith" an email describing things that I consider unusual. The install didn't create an icon, I can't save tunes over 16 measures long, etc.. I don't think the installation worked. When something like this happens, the vendors usually suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the software. I did execute the program from the directory where it resides and "pin" it to the taskbar. I can execute the program, but there are problems.

Yes, I think it is -- especially since the password is supplied by them.

I just looked in the window that opens in TablEdit > About TablEdit > Registration...   and all I see are the user name and a 10-letter password.  It's not really a word.  It's random letters.  I don't appear to have any other Registration Key.

Since you have a name and password, enter them in the window I described above.  (The path may be different in Windows; I'm on a Mac)   I believe that will unlock your demo copy and turn it into the full featured TablEdit.

Also:  The email you received from them should have a URL for the non-published owners-only page where you can download the full version. That page is password-protected, so you'll need your name and password.

Paying for TablEdit entitles you to lifetime upgrades.  If your computer is online, you'll get a pop-up message in TablEdit whenever a new version is released. The message will include the link to the download.

Matthieu (in France) is the creator of TablEdit. Keith Saturn is his US rep or partner.

Hi Richard

It's been a while since I purchased TablEdit so my memory is not so sharp but as I recall I was sent an email with my username and password and a link to a secure area where I downloaded the most recent Full Version of the software. Not the DEMO version which only saves 16 measures.

Once installed I believe I had to register the software to receive notification of updates .

When I receive notification of an update NOW I click on HELP and at the bottom of the window Check for Updates - There is a link there that takes me straight to the secured download page. I always DOWNLOAD the latest update to my computer then I install the exe file. I never RUN the installation program online.

In my experience TablEdit will overwrite the Full Version files but not the DEMO version. I would suggest you uninstall the Demo Version manually. If your having problems installing the Full Version you may uninstall the software and try a fresh install. Firstly downloading the Latest Version of TablEdit   V2.76

As for Printing I never do.

Dick Hauser - forums are great if they are managed at least well enough so they don't evolve into a trash container. Like some of the auto forums. Car companies can't be bothered, but some independents get together for a certain brand and it can be good. I happen to have a Hyundai and the Hyundai forum online is great. BHO has the tab and discussion forum and that is close to a tabledit forum. I had suggested tabledit being it's own topic but it didn't go over to well with the powers that be. Maybe some day. It is ubiquitous enough that I feel it makes sense.

"But, is there any way to eliminate chords ? I don't want 14 page tabs for a single tune."

If you click on the options (check in a box) and then click on multitrack, you should be able to uncheck everything you don't want to print. I usually just leave the banjo tablature box checked.

kmwaters - Posted - 10/08/2016:  06:53:31

Open a tab in the program, and go to File /Options in the main menu.

Click the General tab on top. Click the Page Mode radio button. Uncheck the Notation box.

Under the Display tab, Uncheck the Chord Diagram boxes if you don’t want them displayed.

Under the Multi-track tab, uncheck all instruments except banjo, and uncheck the Notation box.

Click Apply at the bottom and then close. For updates:

Go to tabledit.com/secured/, put in your registration name and password, and then click the link to download the newer version. Version 276 c3 will download even though I think it still says c2 on the site.

After download you can run the program and the installation will just overwrite the appropriate files in the version you have installed. No need to uninstall the current version which is nice.

Hi,

As time goes by, there are less differences between the Windows version and the Mac version.

Now the Mac version has a simple installer. You can simply drag the app to the Application folder.

However, the passwords are different. On Mac it is a 10 letter string and on Windows it is a 7 digit number.

Best regards.

TablEdit Forum:  beta.groups.yahoo.com/neo/grou...Edit/info

My Registration Key e-mail (User Name and Password) came through in about 30 minutes.

TablEdit is still (IMHO) the best and most functional tablature software available.  However, there are others and some people may find that another software product suits their working method better - for me I have been a long term user of TablEdit (though I have purchased most of the competing products) and I will be continuing to use TablEdit as my tablature program of choice !!

Alas, I will never know the joys of using Tabledit.

I am running Linux on my desktop and both of my laptops. There is not a Tabledit version that will run on my OS of choice.  sad

In lieu of running Tabledit I have installed two tabbing programs and used both to some extent. Both are available for Linux, Windows, and Mac operating systems. I came across Musescore from a recommendation in another thread in this forum. The other program is TuxGuitar. TG will work with some file formats not available in Musescore and is the program I first used. However, Musescore is rapidly becoming my preferred program due to how easily it  customizes many aspects of the output.

dr4dpet - As I understand the current state of affairs TablEdit can be run successfully on Linux by installing the WINE emulator - see here:

tabledit.com/download/linux.shtml

Further information can be found here:

appdb.winehq.org/objectManager...gId=20404

Hope that helps.

Thank you SteveMcBill.

I am using the program, TuxGuitar, mentioned in the the BHO archieve you linked, to open .tef files. From there I can edit and save in several formats; its native format and three versions of GuitarPro. Also, it will let me export as midi, MusicXML, ascii, PDF, and LilyPond (but I doubt that I will ever submit anything for commercial printing). For my own use I can print from TuxGuitar. If I want a better looking printed output I will use one of the export formats to give me I a file I can import into MuseScore.

Once I am more comfortable using the TuxGuitar and Musescore programs, I most likely will give the demo version of Tabledit a shot under Wine. The two biggest reasons to give it a chance are ease of sharing on BHO and to see if I like its print output better than that of MuseScore. Neither of the Linux programs saves or exports in the .tef format.  But both can export as midi and MusicXML, which can be opened or imported by Tabledit, as can GP files from TuxGuitar. From the Winehq remarks I see that the version of Tabledit, now on version 2.76, that received a gold rating was 2.65. That doesn't the new version doesn't work as well or better under Wine, just that no one has rated a newer version. That rating is for Tabledit under the same version of Wine I am running.
