Hi,   i been away from banjo about 3 yrs. and I cant remember string info.  I used to use some sort of nylguts that fit in the nut slots on my old strat o lin.  I at some time had changed back to steel  , so when I opened up case the other day , i wanted to get some nylons again.  I got some that say super nylgut classic,, but 4th is wound I "thought"" the ones I used to have on there were all nylon.

I got some reds didnt take to them,  do they make a set that are similiar , but the old white formula?? and size?    Ive forgot too much. anyhelp appreciated

It got really confusing a couple years back.  They discontinued the all white nylon set and replaced the white unwound with the Red 4th.  Then they offered both for a while, may or may not still.  They do make a fairly new "Super" Nylgut set which to my knowledge still ships with an unwould 4th.  They're not pure white, more of a cream color but a lot of people like 'em.  They stretch in faster and I understand are more durable.  You might try calling Elderly and see what they have.

I like the Reds personally, they're a little brighter than the Supers on my banjo.  Had major issues with strings breaking originally but changed the formula and got past that ..... but ..... they now ship with a white wound 4th!  Who knows why!!

I just strung my Lyon & Healy with a set of Aquila Super Nylgut strings that are all nylon. It's the first time it's been back in action for years so these are the first I've tried recently. They sound and play good. I was tempted to order the ones with red copper mixed in but decided to wait until next time.

Perhaps I should have written that the 4th string is not wound, as if I remember correctly the wound ones are still nylon.

Hi Steve:

These are cream colored all Nylgut mediums.
There's also a light gauge set.

The fourth is Nylgut, not wound. It is fairly "fat".
If you are using a No-Knot tailpiece you'll need to widen the slot.

I like the sound and feel of the Nylgut fourth string.

thank yall!! I will get some . I set I tried to put on last nite I bought 3 yrs ago probably. I probaly had lights on my strat o lin before. Im hoping to get back into playing if my tendons let me. lol
