Hi Guy's
It's currently not possible to open Guitar Pro 5 .gp5 files in TablEdit you need to get WG2T it's a TablEdit AdOn \WG2T.exe which converts .gp5 files to .tef files and is available from the TablEdit website. I believe Guitar Pro 6 .gpx files will load/import directly into the latest version of TablEdit

Archie - Windows / Control Panel /Default Programs - click on associate file with program and then scroll to gp files. Mine shows gp3. The Tabledit does not show as a choice so you browse for it and find Tabledit.exe in Program Files 86. Once the file is associate they will open.

TablEdit will open a Guitar Pro 5 file ( .gp5) directly. You don't need to use the WG2T conversion.

Mick is totally correct. The latest Tabledit update will open GP5/.gp5...Jack

Thanks Guys.
I downloaded Doug Knights 20 Licks TAB in Guitar Pro 5 format but I wasn't able to open them directly and found I had to convert them. I thought there was some issue with TabEdit so I just wanted to pass on a workaround in case other were stuck for a solution.
Need to fix that file association thingy. Thanks Ken

My Windows 7 Control Panel only shows one gp file - I think it is gp3 - when you go to Control Panel / Default Programs / Associate file with program. But apparently Windows includes all other numbers behind the letters "gp" once you select Tabledit.exe as the default program to open the gp3 files.

Hi Ken
I've got Windows 8.1 and when I tried to open Doug Knight's file into TablEdit it said it was a bad file type.
I could not find an option in the control panel for / Default Programs / Associate File as you had suggested.
Just checked Doug's files have the *.gp5 extender (not *.gp3) I can open files with the the *.gpx which I think is Guitar Pro 6

I just checked and am able to open Doug Knight's GP .gp5 files using TablEdit just fine. So there is nothing wrong with his files.
My System: Windows XP, old Dell PC

Hi Mick
Your right it's not Doug's files it's my computer. I tried opening someone else's .gp5 files and got the same result.

Problem resolved, just updated TablEdit to latest version. Strange I didn't receive the usual update notification.
