I set up my Goodtime Special with a New High Collar Remo and I cranked it down til' I heard my brackets squeaking...
I then put some GHS PF145 Med. Lights on it and I'm really happy with the end result.
Let me know what you guys think and let me know how my picking is comin' along.
Thanks,
Nose.

Nice picking Bob. Could be the head is a bit too tight and the sound a little too bright. I would experiment with a little loosening of the head and see what happens. Keep up the good work.

Great picking ! I love the Goodtime banjos. I prefer a five star head tightened to about an 88-89 on the drum dial, opens up the tone IMHO.

Thanks Ken,
I already tried loosening the head but it ended up sounding a little muddy and the power wasn't there.
I'm trying to set it up for a Scruggsy sound with a Growly low end and sparkling highs.
My microphone isn't the greatest so It might be able to express all the brightness properly.
But with the head really tightened down it's pretty powerful for a Goodtime and the fourth string really growls.
Thanks,
Nose.

To me is the tone sounds really Scruggsy with the tight head. Now I want to tighten my goodtime special's head.
