Such a nice and deliberate contribution should not go unnoticed.  Why don't you just cut the crap and serve yourself a slice, a cup of coffee is out of the question.

Marvin got a lot of attention for his project, great.

The subject was good grade aluminum tubing, not some other subject.

Helix, are you planning on building a banjo with a 11" or 12" aluminum tubing rim? I would like to hear a sound comparison test with a plastic head and a skin head.

Well Helix, if you made rims out of good grade aluminum tubing, you could solder your spoons to the inside of it without drilling bolt holes and interrupting the flow of the sound waves. enlightened

I've seen folks stick spoons on the end of their nose.  That seems a whole lot easier than going to all the trouble of mounting them in a rim and you could use the same spoon no matter what banjo you played.

Wow... sorry.

Larry - if you don't like the responses, then stop asking questions.  When someone posts an example of aluminum tubing, and the conversation goes sideways for a min... it is possible just to be gracious and take from the thread what you need, and politely ignore the rest.  Granted, you started the thread... but where it goes is up to the group.

Aluminum pots are nothing new.  Try it and show us how yours turns out... then we can all "oooh" and "ahhh" over your work.

vitaneedle.com 11"&12" aluminum tubing.

It was a folk thing,  In high school a classmate of ours converted a 4-string family attic banjo to a shiny, buffed, agricultural grade aluminum rimmed wonder.  It was the first planetary tuners I ever saw, first champhered headstock, carved heel , and the first time I ever heard anybody play clawhammer.  Family can be a good thing.

He obtained the banjo rim from a bean field in Lenexa, with a hacksaw and a full moon.

I submit that there is plenty of this stuff above ground and waiting to be repurposed.  I am not particularly interested in making a rim and letting you know, aluminum has it followers.

I know aluminum has its fans. the crappy castings from imported sources can't compete, I've played them on stage, and seen and heard this at the jams.

By exploring good industrial American made tempered aluminum tubing, I think a person would have an advantage of weight and sound.

Jason, I got a lot from what you wrote about your Grandfather.  These other guys go from thread to thread, so push back to the moderator is also a message.   larry, mo and curly maple, stooge like.

There is 'just enough' rope up on my barn.

Off topic, but it has been mentioned... so here it is. Where I grew up as a teenager, there was an old man that lived out in the country. He hated children. Beside his house was a small corn patch and behind it, a barn. The top loft was open and from the rafters hung a full sized baby doll by the neck with a rope. I doubt that he had many friends....

Marvin, I apologize for hurting your sensibilities.

What you have written is creepy and disturbing.

Things get locked up in electronic archive, I hope you rethink this.

Please play more banjo.
