I just got an order of fresh calf hides from Jeff Stern. They are literally "going fast." The supply for making 11" size heads is already 50% pre-sold.
This batch includes a few hides with more natural color (not just opaque & off-white). I regularly get requests for stained Stern heads. I don't normally offer stained Stern heads and not recommend staining these, but if you want something with the ultimate quality and performance of a Stern Calfskin - and a little more interesting natural color - Order NOW and request one with the darker color! All are first-come-first served.

Nice hides John and not always available. Somebody will like these and a few have just enough color variation to make them interesting. David E.

I don't like to stain calf hides. They sometimes turn too orange. A couple of these have a great, natural, rustic look. And they are all awesome Stern quality.

I sent you a pm, John, but forgot to say I'd like one of the darker ones, if possible. Thank you!

We just got a Stern hide for our upcoming Bradford & Franzke built Hawthorn RB-12 style top tension banjo. We thought it would be interesting to try a hide head on our new top tension banjo. Since you have the instant adjustability, why not? People spend fortunes searching the illusion "pre-war sound," which was of course played on hide heads. You can see our top tension banjos at hawthornbmg.com.

I should have posted this DAYS ago, but I received mine from John on Tues or Wed of this week. Truth be told; I opened it at the post office and asked the PM to hang on to it since it is pretty hot here and I didn't want it riding all day in the hot truck. The workmanship is really first class and John was an absolute pleasure to deal with.
I've been so covered up that I have not had the opportunity to install it, but I'm looking forward to seeing what it brings out in my TB-3 conversion. If I can just find some time!
Michael
