This old blues song, learned from the singing of Lead Belly, was the closing song of the evening at Montreal's Yellow Door Coffeehouse Friday Night "Hootenanny" Open Stage of 17 June 2016, which I host. Played on my wonderful J. Romero Banjo, tuned down to the key of E (eBEG#B).

The Romeros are wonderful, warm and generous people, magnificent musicians, and brilliant banjo makers. Their workshop burned to the ground in a devastating fire two weeks ago, destroying all their equipment and every instrument they owned.

If you're interested in helping them get back on their feet and building banjos again, contributions toward rebuilding can be sent via Paypal to: jason@romerobanjos.com

Here is the song, embedded from YouTube:

As the Native Americans say, Aho, Marc!   Also glad you're sharing info here to help the Romero's.

Thanks so much folks! This song has been in my repertoire for a long time and I was surprised to find that I had never recorded it before.
