I've just taken delivery of an Epiphone MB100 5 string openback, having paid £100 (UK) on eBay from an established store. (I believe they can be bought in the US for the similar amount of around $150). I can't believe how great value this purchase is. I bought this as a handy cheap practice instrument to keep close to hand for playing bluegrass. I need to keep my more expensive Deering out of reach of small child's hands! I didn't buy the Epiphone for sound quality at this price, but I did want playability to make it worthwhile as a practice instrument. It is very playable up and down the neck, great action out of the box. And it really sounds OK too. If you want something similar, I would strongly recommend this instrument. (I have no connection with the sale of these instruments - I'm just very happy with my purchase.)

Never seen one of those before, look's like it could make a decent C/H Banjo with a good setup.

This was my first banjo. I paid $179USD for it a few years ago. I still have it and, though I now have two other banjos in addtion to this one. I still play this one as much, if not slightly more, than my RK36. Puts out a good sound after proper setup, and I also changed the cheapo tailpiece to a quality Kirschner from Stew-Mac. Have fun with it...it's a great travel banjo!

Picked one up on sale a couple Thanksgivings ago. After setup this is a very nice instrument to play. I bought it, and set it up for clawhammer and it did the job well.

I posted a review here on BHO of this model a few years ago. Perfectly adequate beginning banjo.
