A few youtube clips have appeared from a recent Ralph Stanley concert (the Harvester Performing Arts Center, Rocky Mount Va 11th Dec 2015), but with a new banjo player... Does anyone know who he is? Any ideas why Mitchell Van Dyke wasn't there?

PS: Here's a more cheerful clip I found the other day of Mitchell Van Dyke aged 19, doing a guest spot with the Clinch Mountain Boys in Grundy Va 1990.

The banjo player is Jake Burrows, whose from North Carolina. He also plays often with his brother, Adam.

Thanks guys. I checked out some of Burrows Brothers videos (with Kody Norris)  on youtube & enjoyed them.

Jake is a pretty good Scruggs style picker, but it is a bit odd not to have the 'Stanley' style/sound at a Clinch Mountain Boys gig...

Just seen an announcement on Ralph's facebook page:-

"We want to thank Randall Hibbitts and Mitchell Vandyke for their time spent with the Clinch Mountain Boys. They are going to Peruse other things and we wish them the very best in all of their endeavors. However, Clinch Mountain Boy veteran of 11 years, Dewey Brown will still remain with us. We look forward to seeing all of you folks somewhere at one of our concerts."

Sorry to see Mitchell go - I love his "My Turn" album.

As an offshoot of this, I have not heard how Ralph is doing and I imagine that has a lot to do with what Mitchell has done. It seems like Ralph 2 is touring and so is the grandson but they don't seem to be doing it with Ralph, in spite of what earlier Facebook postings said.

Hi Ken

Nathan S posted a video on Ralph's facebook page on 22 Nov 2015, where he said that Ralph's left knee cartilage was all wore out, so standing for long time was painful & hence the wheelchair. (You can still view it but you have to change from Highlighted posts to All Stories). Ralph's listed on the bill as "Special Guest" for the March 5th show.
