I have a Reiter Round Peak (12"), and I'd like to upgrade the case.  The world of mid-level (i.e. protective but not too expensive) banjo cases seems rather limited when compared to guitar and mondolin cases.  It seems that there are Import cases, TKL and Ameritage cases, and then the big jump to custom flight.  So, I am considering the TKL Arch Top Professional case or the Ameritage Silver Series case.  I suspect that many of you have and use the TKL Arch Top, so I am curious of your opinions.  But if anyone out there has used an Ameritage banjo case, I'd love your thoughts as well.  They look really nice and solid for a wood case.  Finally, are there any cases I am missing in my equation.

Basically, I'd like to get a solid case that (1) is an upgrade from the base level, flat top, TKL, (2) that fits the banjo well without it sliding around inside the case, (3) looks good, (4) can stand on end, (5) is not imported from Asia, and (6) costs substantially less than a Hoffee/Calton/Price.

I wish Hiscox made banjo cases!

Well I have a Silver Creek Archtop case, I don't know how great of quality they are, but it was cheap, and I bought it about five years ago, so it is holding up well. I'm wondering, is your Reiter an openback? I'm guessing it is, since that is what I have seen of them. If it is, a resonator banjo case should work, as with the resonator on, the banjo has a diameter of around 13in. I have heard the TLK cases are more snug than other brands, but since I don't own one, I can't be for sure.

I don't like the vinyl-covered rope handles on TKL professional cases. 

Personally, I'd rather have their lower-price, flat-top, "premier" series case (with grey interior and molded handle).  I never fly with a banjo - so that is all the protection I need.

I agree with John,

The flat-top TKL cases are a great value.

If you want to fly with a banjo .... Get a Gold Tone "Plunky" ...

I have three hard cases (TKL's and a Superior) for different 12" pot banjos (including a Reiter) and none of them let the banjo go 'sliding around inside the case'. They're all a snug fit and offer perfectly adequate protection when traveling between home and sessions and festivals. Personally I like the 'bump' shape cases.

You don't mention a specific reason for wanting an upgraded case. If it is for flights with your banjo my advice would be regardless of type of case don't check your banjo in the hold. A banjo, even in a hard case, fits easily in the overhead lockers in the cabin and this avoids completely any risk of heavy handling and damage.
