I'm waiting for my Iphone to send a photo but it doesn't seem to be coming... Anyway it is of a Slingerland banjo with an original skin head (says Slingerland right on the skin head) and the head has the excess skin cut off on the UNDERSIDE of the head.. I've never seen this before.. It eliminates all of the excess skin on the top side of the banjo.. I'm for sure going to try that the next time I install a skin head.. Have YOU ever seen such a skin head?

I personally prefer the more common method where the hide is wrapped and trimmed on the outside of the head. But here are a couple of videos demonstrating what you describe:

Does anyone know if the double thickness of skin on the tone ring when the head is mounted this way is going to affect the sound of the head and banjo?
