I'm posting this topic for a friend..  He plays irish tenor.

He is looking for a strap that removes easily and is easy to fit into a case.. I use a neotech for my 5 string but the case is bigger.  cheers in advance.    Kirby

I make a strap that you can attach with plastic swivel hooks, I also make cradle straps and can make the ends any way you want them for connecting to the banjo. Send me a PM if he's interested, I have a classified advertisement posted in the classifieds here.

My Cradle strap stays attached to my banjo and fits in the case wrapped around the rim. I make my own but I see others that do the same thing. I have seen plastic clips break and banjos fall. I have seen hooks break and banjos fall so I only use cradle type straps.

I would say that a lot depends on how heavy your friends banjo is ! if it is an open back and has no tone ring then any strap with detatchable hooks will be fine, if however it is a full mastertone style with heavy tone ring and reso then I would get a cradle strap for sure, they can be carefully packed into the case if you wrap them around the banjo, I have four of these mastertone instruments and they all fit into their cases with strap attatched.

It's an irish tenor with a whyte laydie tone ring and a resonator...  the biggest issue I think is concerning fitting into the case....  Hence  irish tenor

One of the reasons I bought a Lakota cradle strap lakotaleathers.com/products/banjo/ is that it easily fits into the case.  It would not remove easily, however. I have a Neotech and, as you know, the strap is easy to remove and I put the strap in the small compartment in the case. 

This appears to be Chief's page etsy.com/shop/ChiefsLeatherWorks  maybe he has an idea.  Personally, I would stay away from any strap that had hooks, plastic or metal.  There are other BHO members that make (custom) straps as well.

my suggestion was neotech.. I see they make a slimline now.  I have an older one... the wide kind..

I was hoping someone from the celtic forum would chime in... people seem to keep missing.. it's a short neck banjo

cradle straps wrap around the banjo pot above the flange usually and fit in my experience, if the resonator fits then that is the largest part after all.
