Howdy All,
Just rec'd a beautiful TB that I swapped the neck on. It has an old hide head from AMRAWCO in Great shape. I tensioned her up and she sounds and looks Wonderful. Shows very little signs of wear. (as does the whole banjo) Am I risking too much in playing it as is ? I am wondering if the "Closet Queen Factor" is good or bad for the old head. Obviously my first experience with these. Thanks PJW

I don't think that a vintage AMRAWco head adds tremendous value. They are excellent hides. But not really as sought after as the Rogers brand.
A used, good-condition, 11", medium crown Rogers head might be worth $100-150 to a Gibson collector (just a guess). A similar AMRAWco head is probably worth no more than the cost to replace it with a new hide. I doubt having a vintage hide head adds even that much value to a tenor banjo.

I have a AMRAWco Standard head on a Lyon and Healy Mystic banjo. It's a slightly different logo than those economy logos you show John.

They used several different logos. I've been saving photos of various old and new logos in a folder on my homepage. If yours is different, we should add a photo of it to the collection.

I intend to change to polymer strings soon on that banjo. When I do, I'll send a photo. Until then it is obscured by the tailpiece.

John I am not familiar with that mark. When you were collecting marks; is this one you collected? David E.
