My Rickard Dobson came to me (second owner) with no logo or serial number. Even though the prior owner told me it was not an "ordinary" kit but more of a custom build,  I think it would technically be classified as a kit because it did not have finish on it. Even if you call it a kit....it was amazing....a little 220, 4 coats of minwax and it's the most beautiful banjo I have owned. It came fully assembled and unless you knew it was a good idea to finish wood.....it was ready to go. So.....my question to Rickard kit owners and/or banjo builders is that  If it is technically a kit do you not add a serial number and logo? It would be nice if it had these things but I really don't care.....I don't think I will sell this banjo....and this coming from a guy who has bought and sold more banjos in his short banjo career than makes sense. I have finally found the banjo that suits me in terms of quality of build, looks, playability and sound. Just curious and I thought someone might know. I sent Bill quite a few emails but haven't heard back. I don't think some of my emails, sent through BHO, get through to people sometimes..... OR...... nobody likes mesad  Thanks, Rick

Bill can be a tough guy to get in touch with sometimes, but rest assured, he makes a great banjo and cares about his customers. My Rickard likewise has no serial number, although it does have the logo (a nicely done brass inlay on the dowel stick). I think perhaps the "kit" nature of the banjo means they have no serial numbers (??). But...you have discovered one of the best values in openback banjos--the Rickard kit. Mine Whyte Laydie sounds and plays wonderfully, and I paid 40% less than a bigger name equivalent. Plus, I was able to customize it to my taste, and I have the satisfaction of finishing it myself. Enjoy!!
