Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires  (Sunday)

“Backed by his insanely tight six-man Extraordinaires, Bradley spins tales with the gravelly voice of experience, more than occasionally punctuating his songs with the powerful shriek that has earned him the moniker “The Screaming Eagle of Soul.”   -Nick Krewen



After being discovered by Daptone's Gabe Roth, and releasing his own music Bradley has experienced one triumph after another: a stunning performance at South By Southwest that earned unanimous raves; appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Newport Folk Festival and many more. He’s garnered spots on many Year-End Best Lists like Rolling Stone, SPIN, GQ, and Paste. His latest album, Victim of Love is a continuation of his amazing story, moving past the 'heartache and pain' and closer to the promise of hope. We are lucky to have him squeeze in a date prior to his European tour. This show promises to be energetic, way soulful and all around incredible. Check out his new video.

 

Bill Kirchen

Grammy nominated guitarist, singer and songwriter Bill Kirchen is one of the fortunate few who can step onto any stage, play those trademark licks that drove his classic Hot Rod Lincoln into the Top Ten. His career has spanned over 40 years and includes guitar work with Nick Lowe, Emmylou Harris, Doug Sahm, Elvis Costello and many more.  Named “A Titan of the Telecaster” by Guitar Player Magazine, Bill Kirchen celebrates an American musical tradition where rock 'n' roll and country music flow with a base of blues, bluegrass, Texas western swing and a strong dose of California honky-tonk.

Anders Osborne (Sunday)

Richly detailed songwriting, intensely emotional, soulful vocals and his piercing, expert guitar work, New Orleans’ Anders Osborne is an anthematic musical treasure.



Guitar Player calls him “the poet laureate of Louisiana’s fertile roots music scene.” New Orleans' Gambit Weekly recently honored Osborne as the Entertainer Of The Year. OffBeat named him the Crescent City’s Best Guitarist for the third year in a row, and the Best Songwriter for the second straight year. Osborne also won Song Of the Year for his composition, Louisiana Gold.  Since his recording debut in 1989, Osborne has written virtually all of his own material and contributed memorable songs to a wide variety of artists. He has recorded and toured alongside such luminaries as Tab Benoit, Cyril Neville, Waylon Thibodeaux and Dr. John, has appeared in the HBO drama, Treme, and has song credits in numerous feature films.  We think you need to hear this soulful and spacious anthematic rocker from down south and catch some inner "Peace". Dom Flemons (Fri, Sat, Sun)

We’ve loved Dom Flemons at Rhythm and Roots as a founding member of  the Grammy winning roots music group Carolina Chocolate Drops, and now that he’s teaming up with Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons as the Dom Flemons Trio, he’s back to grace our stage once again.



Dom has been called  the "American Songster," and is known for pulling from traditions of old-time folk music to create exciting new sounds. Dom plays banjo, guitar, harmonica, fife, bass drum, snare drum, as well as the more unusual quills, and he enchants  audiences when he plays the bones. His banjo repertoire includes not only clawhammer but also tenor and three-finger styles of playing.  Just last week, Dom released his 3rd solo album, listen to Prospect Hill

 

Gangstagrass  (Sunday)

Emmy-nominated bluegrass/hip-hop outfit Gangstagrass is showcasing their  new album, “Broken Hearts and Stolen Money."  These original tracks serve as evidence that the crossroads are moving North, where the dirt roads of Appalachian bluegrass meets the sooty city streets of Brooklyn. The band’s Jay-Z meets Ralph Stanley sound breaks barriers and destroys genres with its eclectic mix of low down and down home beats.  The Gangstagrass Song “Long Hard Times To Come” Is The Emmy Nominated Theme of the FX series “Justified” and has sold 200,000 copies.



Not only has Gangstagrass been on the forefront of the burgeoning genre often called “Hick-Hop”, they clearly blazed the trail. Check out Honey Babe.





Red Dog Run (Friday)

Red Dog Run is a group of veteran musicians and old friends who have spent most of their lives exploring the depths of American roots music, with each member bringing a rich musical history of their own and a deep appreciation for the traditions from which they've grown. They have performed extensively, together and separately, in projects exploring folk, rock, old time, new wave, country, Celtic, Cajun/Creole, and their own compositions, at clubs, theaters, and festival across the Americas and Europe. The band consists of Richie Stearns (banjo & vocals) and Jim Miller (vocals, guitar & banjo), founding members of Donna the Buffalo, Rosie Newton (fiddle), and Jed Greenberg (bass, fiddle), another DTB member.



Yves Lambert Trio (Friday)



Playing the Canadian Stage on Friday evening, this trio brings a new take on traditional Quebec music and innovative accordion and arrangements. Consider it "dancing poetry woven with innovative, original songwriting."
