Hi All, I'm finely getting around to installing a zero glide nut and I think I'm going to go with nylon strings, From what I've heard it sounds like Chris Sands are well liked so I thought about getting them. Now I'm hearing a lot about Aquila Red, I know strings are just personal preferences but I'd still like some opinions, also do I get lite, med or heavy and what about the 4th string wound or nylon. I'll be using a Fielding TP and mostly stay in open g. Thanks Larry

Which of the above strings would be less like a limp noodle

What is your scale length?  Also, you might try asking the polymer strings group:  banjohangout.org/group/polymerstrings

I really like the Nylguts, white/smooth.

Sands' strings will be the stiffest, esp. the "Heavy" versions.

Aquila Nylguts ("classic", white) would be next, followed by the "red" version. The red 4th is too much like a rubber-band for me. I liked the rest of the set but replaced the 4th with a standard wound from Clifford Essex.

I hear that La Bella have changed their formulation and are much harder than they were previously. They were the floppiest for years. I haven't tried the new ones.

Personally, I like the "classic" nylgut set for best all around use. I'm currently using a set of guts from Clifford Essex Music. They're pricey but I do like them a lot...and since I rarely change strings twice in a year, I can deal with the expense.

Thanks Trapdoor, I ordered the Sands Heavies.
