He put out an banjo playing video long ago and I can't find it. i wrote Folkways who was supposed to have it and they never responded. This looks like it was from a Rainbow Quest show judging from the set of the stage and what he was wearing.

Your title suggesting that this is from 1954 comes from one of the comments on the video, I suppose. The comment was talking about his LP record made to accompany his How to Play the 5 string Banjo book.  This video is clearly later than that - probably about 10 years later.

I think the one from Folkways was originally a 16mm film, not sure if it ever was upgraded to video tape or DVD. Homespun has a video, I think it was recorded much later. The 16mm was from the 1950's or 1960's, and the Red Book had an address to rent it. Not having access to a 16mm projector, I never did look into it. I believe that Pete was wearing that same sweater (or a similar one) the first time I saw him in the mid sixties.  It was orange.

The DVD that you've linked on Amazon has a copyright of 1991 in small print on the back cover as shown, so I'm guessing it was shot then. Thanks for this tip - I ordered it.

I like to have and watch these instructional videos (like the Mike Seeger series etc.) even though I already know how to play and have been doing so for around a half century now. You've never been playing so long that you can't pick up something new.

That's one of my favorite vids of Pete Seeger. In some of his live performances he never seemed to run out of lyrics for that tune. You can't play that song and NOT have fun.
