Michael Jerome Browne - a great Canadian blues & old time musician just got a 12" Maple Ridge Banjo from me 2 days ago. This is what he says
"After many years of not really having a serious old-time banjo (I lost my last one in a fire in'96), I finally got this Rickard Maple Ridge. Made in Ontario. 12" pot. (They also make 11"). This one has a real skin on it. Killer sound. I can't put it down. To all you old-time music people: these are great banjos, and they don't cost a fortune. Thanks to Arnie Naiman for turning me on to them" Michael Jerome Browne

Michael is a really brilliant musician. I've known him since he was 14. I'd like to be able to say I taught him how to play the banjo, but the truth is, he watched me play, and then went home and figured it out for himself. I am proud of the fact that I put him on stage for the first time when he was 14, doing a guest set when I was performing.
Here's a link to a video of him playing the banjo - a fretless gourd - not the one he just acquired.

I saw MJB at the Montreal Jazz festival. I fully enjoyed him.
