Here's a tune I've enjoyed learning recently, inspired mostly by Adam Hurt's piano version, but rooted in Kentucky fiddler John Salyer. I'm playing a Gold Tone cello banjo with all-nylon strings tuned down to dADF#A. Hope you enjoy!

Beautifully played. You've created a uniquely sweet-sounding cello banjo with your innovative setup.

Always enjoy it when a tune is posted with CB. You and Paul put that instrument to great use.

Ah, my Banjo Hangout friends have helped make my day by listening and commenting.
Thanks, I needed that, after a long day of wrestling with IRS forms and computer malfunction to make it even worse.
I was the "lost girl" in the horrid world of taxes. Now if I could just get the printer to print.....
My tab is just a guide to help someone learn (and help me remember what I figured out).

Your tone is just wonderful - so ringing and bell like. The higher notes are especially rich. That's an excellent piece for the cello banjo - a fine match!

Janet a very beautiful song and played with a very delicate touch..really enjoyed it. I think I will play it when we do our tax returns..calm the nerves.

Very lovely, Janet. Between your set up and playing is a very enjoyable piece of music. I must confess that every other cello banjo playing to me has sounded worse than fingernails on a chalkboard, harsh, metallic and not musical at all, or just barely. What a lovely exception! Banjered

I have previously used every superlative in describing your ability to coach that sound out of your banjos and hard to find new ones. Don't think I have used enchanting before.
Are your other banjos going to become jealous of your tenor family addition?

Actually this is a 5-string banjo and I'm playing clawhammer style. Here's a video of the same tune recorded last week:

I really think that was the best I have heard a CEB-5 played . . . ever!
Quite often, in my opinion, players will pluck the CEB-5 just a little too hard. It has a very sweet timbre in your hands. It almost sounds "Oriental." Most pleasing Janet!
Best Wishes, Tom

most pleasing indeed!
I would agree with others in that the cello banjo hasn't always been my favorite sound. I love the way that you make it sing though. It's perfect. Hearing you play it makes me want to go buy one!

Tom, Travis, and Laurence--you guys are super! As "Big L" has said, you're the reason we like to post on Sound Off. I knew this tune is a gem I wanted to learn and share, and it took a long while to get here.
Interestingly, I'd been listening to Melvin Wine's version of Lost Girl, but was having trouble getting his A part timing. I like studying as many of his tunes as I can. After hearing Adam's piano it was much easier to figure out, plus it helped when I saw John Salyer's fiddle notated in Jeff Titon's book Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes.

I'd just like to echo what Tom said above. This was a real pleasure to hear and view, truly enchanting. It's nice to hear old time tunes played at a relaxed tempo and with a delicate touch. That is how my wife plays, whereas I tend to the "harder/faster" end of the spectrum for whatever reason. But this was gorgeous.
