Just installed a new "jbalch" goat skin head on my Bonefaas banjo.

Looks great. Now, sit back and relax with a bottle of Jim Beam.
Did you get a pre-mounted one?
Brooklynbanjoboy - Posted - 02/22/2014: 15:00:09
Is J-Walk saying that instead of staining with tea or coffee, try Jim Beam?

Be sure to try out the new head by tuning in A & playing John Brown's (Dream)!

"What size and crown height did you get?"
It's an 11 inch ...
Crown height? .. I don't know. ![]()

The note John included with my head states he usually sets them up with low to medium crown height.

Eddie - I like the way that head looks on your JB - hope it serves you well. Thanks again!
John: re : crown height for a Dobson ring - I would choose a medium or lower crown. The bearing edge of the Dobson ring is a larger radius than most other common tone rings or rims. So I think the head has a tendency to pull down lower....especially if it is a type that might stretch.

The Original Skin is much stiffer and is painted
white underneath.

Over all I'm very pleased with the look and the sound.
Seems "brighter" and to have more volume and response.
But it also got a new set of strings and ...
... I'm never too good at remembering what something used to sound like.
Before and after comparisons are always difficult for me to be sure about.

jbalch,
If you please, tell me how you stained this skin.
mrphysics55 - Posted - 02/23/2014: 13:52:02
I was thinking; With what did you stain the skin?" Not; How was it done?" and you kindly responded with: "black coffee".
This is great. I have a daily espresso habit. This skin may represent a reasonable approximation of my future hue.

Thank you for providing these excellent pre mounted skins.

No problem ... I just wanted to respond directly in case you were going to DIY.
