Does anyone know where I might find the tab  for a good, intermediate version of Soldiers Joy bluegrass style in G.  I've checked everything here and nothing quite does the trick.  Lots of drop c versions, a couple simple (skimpy) versions, banjo ben's more advanced version, lots of clawhammer. I just love the tune and realize its more of a fiddle tune geared to clawhammer players, but it shouldn't have to be IMHO.

Also, if you have an mp3 of you playing it or someone else maybe you could post the link.  Perhaps I can slow it down with the amazing slowdowner and figure it out myself.  Thanks again!

Try the Scruggs book "The Old Folks" it is a drop C version but a good one!

Ive been looking for the same type of thing. Bluegrass version of Soldiers Joy. I know Earl did it but still doesn't have that bluegrass sound.

Earl doesn't have that bluegrass sound? If Earl played it, it is- by definition- bluegrass. You might not want to play it like he does, but that is a matter of taste, not style,

Oh, yeah, almost every fiddler on planet Earth plays Soldier's Joy in the key of D, not G. You can play it in G tuning using C positions, capoed on 2, out of drop C, capoed on 2, out of G tuning using D positions with no capo, or even out of open D tuning. Of course, you can also learn it in G and capo on 7.

Thats actually what I meant, G-tuning, not the key of G.  My bad.

Here's a video lesson of Soldiers Joy by Geoff Hohwald .

And the tab to go with it here.
