Help.  We are getting pounded here in the South with weather and my banjos are not used to it.  I just had one calf skin head  split open spontaneously, and I am getting on a plane in am for flight to Vail with another skin head banjo.  I immediately started loosening heads on my other banjos but besides that any other prophylactic things I need to do, especially with the one I am flying with.  Thanks for your consideration.

Here in Tennessee, when the heat is running constantly and the inside humidity falls far below 30%, I loosen my heads just a little bit.
