CIVIL WAR: America Divided with an axe
( Chucky: while there, you must try 'Montreal style smoked meat'; the best places are Ben's, Dunn's and Main Smoked Meat (all on or around St..Laurent street, where you can still get the real thing, made with at least a week's smoking rather than the stuff that's chemically 'smoked' with sodium nitrite). Just called 'smoked meat' by the locals, it's smoked brisket of beef seasoned with -- among other things -- smoked paprika and black peppercorns. New Yorkers are WRONG:-- pastrami is a pale, pink, watery and insufficient substitute for the rel thing. Smoked paprika is also used (with molasses) in BBQ (including ribs and chicken) in Montreal: -- try St.Hubert Barbeque. )
P.S.: Yes, my posters are one of the most wanted. In good condition, they command a price greater than the nominal reward...

Cocksure with an axe
Spiv: Too easy. There are so many good Montreal authors: Mordachai Richler, Ray Smith, Ray Fraser, Gregory Clark, Leonard Cohen, John Metcalfe, Michael Harris... The list just keeps on going. And that's not even counting those who write in French. Even Ruiyyeh Khanum (nee May Maxwell) was born in Montreal.
Chucky: Yum! You're one lucky Calgarian. Montreal and New Orleans are the best eating cities in North America, although I must admit to developing a partiality for Stampede pancakes when on assignment in Calgary. I'm a lucky man, and my American wife has learned how to make them, with the bacon-and-Bailey's filling. She can also do a mean smoked meat.
