Lefty Alert! Amazon's running a deal on the Gold Tone CC100+/L open-back for $349.25.. This is a beautiful high-end beginner banjo that normally sells for $560 - $580 (Elderly, Fretted Frog) with Amazon charging $525 for the right-hand CC100+/R. That's about $200 that your left hand is gonna save you. Lefties don't get a lot of love in the banjo world (I'm frowning at you, Recording King). Only Deering and Gold Tone remember the lefty for affordable banjos, unless you consider Rover, which you probably shouldn't. (Cost of professional set-up cancels out initial cost savings. Not many first-timers can do their own set-up, You don't want an amateur shaving your nuts.) Only Gold Tone does factory set-up and tuning on each banjo, so it's the one brand that's safe to buy on Amazon. For good pictures of the CC100+, check the Fretted Frog or Gold Tone sites..Some pictures show the old natural finish, but current banjos have the darker "vintage brown" stain. Old time players should note this model lacks the scooped neck and capo spike of the entry-level CC-OT . What it does have is a better 3-ply maple rim (like the Deering Goodtime & Goodtime Classic), 24 brackets, planetary tuners and dual coordinating rods. The equivalent in a Recording King would be the RK-O25 ($550, but it doesn't come in a lefty.) There's a used 2009 Goodtime lefty with the Gumby pegstock for $295 at Gryphon that I'd been circling around, but I think I'm gonna finally take the plunge in that ole Cripple Creek, down in Gold Tone country. It's time to get those feet wet.

I have a 100R+ and the finish on it is very good. Linked this thread to the Lefties group so hopefully someone will get a bargain. Thanks for posting the info.
