I have a premounted skin head and I'm trying to mount it on a 12 inch pot with a rolled brass tone-ring. I am having the hardest time getting the tone-ring to nest in the head and then getting the tension band on top of the head. Is this something that I should have to force? It's almost as if the head, pot, tension band or the tone-ring are out of true.

No pics here at work, but I was wondering if that was enough info for some pointers.

I usually assemble the rim and tone ring as a unit. Make sure everything fits together as it should.

Place the pre-mounted head inside the tension hoop  - and install that assembly over the rim.

Add the hooks & nuts and tension the head evenly all around to set a level crown.

On my pre-mounts, you can moisten the hide a little of the crown needs to be stretched (only if truly necessary - otherwise wetting is not recommended). Do not wet the head while it is off the rim.  I include instructions in my packaging (copy attached here).

For a good fit, the flesh hoop should be about the same size as the tension hoop.  It should fit neatly underneath the tension hoop.  If anything (the head, hoop or rim) is out-of-round, and/or if the head is too small or large, assembly might be difficult (or impossible).

Post photos of the parts if your trouble persists.

Best wishes.

Thanks. I'm going to take another look when I get home. For some reason all three components - tone-ring, head, and tension hoop -  were not nesting together and would not fit on the rim.
