Does anyone have expieience with tru oil on a hide head.  Working on a tackhead and wanted both the head stained and the ease of not masking the head off.  Thanks

Tai

Masking the head is easy compared to trying to remove an Oil/varnish product from your head.

NEXT time, apply finish to the gourd first, THEN put on the head.

Now worries mike. The head isn't attached yet. And its not a gourd this time. Im working on a internal tension tack head. Hardware for the tensioning are hidden in the rim. Not on the inside but in the middle of the sides. I experimented with water base stains on hide heads but never with an oil base. Was concerned about the oil affecting the sound of the head more than the look.
Btw Mike. I love your ability to turn almost anything into playable instrument. Thanks for all you inspiration.

Thanks for the compliment.

And, which poet was it wrote

"Taiger, Taiger, burning bright..."

Anyway, lots of people like  to pick or strum or just listen tot he banjo because it takes away their internal tension.

I fear you might be  inventing a way to push them toward a very uncomfortable experience.

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
