Quite a while ago Dave Magram came up with a way to measure the angle of the fingerpick and some most interesting data on pickers and pick angles. I am attaching a picture here to show you how the angle is drawn so you can see where you are on yours.
Dave's research of the great pickers yielded some good information. The mean angle was in the range of about 33-35 degrees as I recall.
I recently toook a look at mine and I was up in the mid 40's. So I adjusted downward and feel like it made quite a difference for me.
Something to try. You can always go back. Thanks Dave for sharing your findings on this.
I took the pick off my finger and then laid it on the side so I could put the band right on the horizontal line while I laid a ruler where I felt the line should be running from the pick to the horizontal line (or "X axis"). Then just backed away leaving the ruler in place so I could draw the line and create the angle for measurement. I believe the key here is to set the ruler at the right spot on the pick surface in accordance with the illustration, as any deviation with the ruler can give you an erroneous result.
I will also attach a measurement tool. Just cut out the center.
