Posted this topic in the wrong place first time around, so trying again (thanks for the advice I did get)
What are people's experience of using different tunings with nylgut; for instance going from open G to double C.
Any advice, any warnings, what are the problems? Thanks.

No problems. Once they have stretched, you can retune your banjo just as easily as with steel strings.

i concur. i retune all the time, often multiple times during a single practice session.
i've been using the same set of Minstrel NylGuts for about 1 1/2 years now. granted the 4th string looks like crap, but it still sounds good.

No problem at all. I have 2 banjos with nylgut: one with medium tension strings and the other one with light strings. One is tuned t G the other one to double C. They both play well.
