We are proud to announce that Bernie Leadon, founding member of the Eagles is now an official Huber Banjos artist endorser. Bernie is currently performing with the band on the “History of the Eagles” world tour, using a Huber custom VRB-75 banjo. In the banjo world Bernie is perhaps best known for his iconic “double-time” banjo, played at the end of the Eagles tune “Take It Easy” and his performances in the 1990’s as a member of the group Run C & W, adapting classic rhythm & blues songs to a bluegrass style. Bernie has also worked as a member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and played on countless recordings as a studio musician. We are greatly honored to introduce him as the latest Huber Banjos artist.

Take it Easy was one of the first tunes that made me want to play the banjo

Wow! Very cool. Just more proof that bluegrass and country rock are very closely related. (Sometime's its there's no difference at all).
And don't forget the contributions Bernie Leadon made with Dillard and Clark.

Sorry, but I still think the Eagles lineup would have been better if they had kept Don Felder.

Had the pleasure of hearing Bernie Leadon live several years ago when he was a member of the "Flying Burrito Brothers" along with Chris Hillman. I believe this was prior to the Eagles gig. Talked to him between sets and he was really down to earth and an all around nice guy.

It's only fitting that his banjo should have the "flying eagle" inlay pattern.

One of my favorite and overlooked albums is Michele Shocked's Arkansas Traveler and Bernie's playing on several tracks.

I still don't get how Bernie plays that double time banjo break in Take it Easy.

The tour will be in Orlando in November. My birthday is in November. I may have to do that. I saw them in Tampa in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over tour. Great, great concert.

That they did. Here's recording youtube.com/watch?v=Yt-ruDNndvI and a video youtube.com/watch?v=s1C9UBp9zN8 on YouTube. Notice how many people are in the audience on the video!

JHBanjo, that clip of "Eagles / Midnight Flyer / 1974 California Jam" has been one of my favorites since I found it on YouTube a couple of years ago! I think I read somewhere that there were 200,000 people attending the California Jam festival that day.
I loved the Osborne Bros.' version of it, but the Eagles take "Midnight Flyer" to a whole different place. Fantastic harmonies, great slide guitar, and listen to how Bernie Leadon's banjo drives the beat and becomes the hallmark sound for the song. Perfect banjo solo for the song, too.
(Also notice Bernie's subtle non-verbal signal to Jackson Browne just before the ending, to cue Browne of the ending coming up-- because Browne was just filling in that day.)
Here's a little-known fact: "Midnight Flyer" was written by Paul Craft. Before becoming a Nashville songwriter, Paul played banjo for Jimmy Martin and recorded "Train 45" and a bunch of other songs with Jimmy. So in addition to being a great songwriter, Paul Craft sure could pick some good banjo! ![]()

If you're referring to their appearance at the California Jam festival ( youtube.com/watch?v=s1C9UBp9zN8 ), here's an explanation of Don's absence that day from the comments below the YouTube clip:
"Don Felder had just joined the Eagles in April 1974, and was about to go on this show with them and his wife Susan went into labor with their first child. Jackson Browne agreed to stand in for him on guitar."

Hi
Barnesc , I agree Arkansas traveler is a wonderful album and alerted me to Bernie Leadon and a whole bunch of country ,americana , OT and BG musicians . With Oh Brother it led me to where I am musically. Bernie Leadon is one of the overlooked great innovators. Love his work with the eagles and Burritos

Me too. One of the main reasons is I don't think they perform Victim of Love live anymore. I guess because he wrote it. That song happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time.

Did Bernie also play on the Doobie Brothers' " Listen To the Music"?
