We just got back from the Sooke River Bluegrass Festival. This was the 11th one. It started in 2000 & went until 2010 . It was canceled for 2 years & started up again this year. This was my 9th one.
There was some AMAZING talent there & they were all from the west coast. Jamming went 'til sun up. You could walk up to any of the performers to ask questions or just say hi!. They have slow pitch jam & workshops too.
There was lots of young people playing all the traditional instruments with their own twist on traditional songs.
There was a band called The Sweet Lowdown that had a rapt following of aspiring young female musicians & an attentive bunch of Bluegrass boys.

It's festival season for sure. We kicked it off here on the Victoria Day weekend with the free (donations suggested) Findlay Ridge Jam, almost all pickers - and some really good ones, too! I brought my open-back and jammed. Between here and upper NY state, there's a festival every weekend. Of course, we get rain every weekend, too.
