Not really selling a guitar but need info about selling them.
My Father is 94 and not in good health. He has two Gibson electric guitars with an old vacumn tube amp that he wants me to research
values. I think they are Les Paul models and I will get exact model names and serial numbers when they go up for sale. Several years ago he was told that the amp alone was worth $3000.
Anyway where is the best place to sell these. I,m about halfway between Louisville and Nashville so could try stores in either place.
Thanks

Not sure what Gruhn's Guitars charges for an appraisal, but they know their stuff. I'd probably pay for the professional appraisal and sell privately.

I'm pretty up to date on that kind of stuff. Gruhn's will charge about 20 bucks for an appraisal. The Gibsons could be worth an amount. The year of manufacture is BY FAR the biggest determining item, then if it is original, then the condition.
60's Les Pauls might fetch $10k plus, 70's maybe 2/3rds of that...80's 3-5 grand...etc. Also depending on the model of Les Paul. Research on "sold" items in Ebay.
Tube amps depending. I'm guessing an old Fender?? Maybe $2k in mint condition... depends on the amp. The prices aren't really thru the roof yet on amps yet, unlike a 50's Les Paul which will put a grin on your face.

I'm pretty sure the Gibson's were purchased new before 1960 as I remember him playing then then.
Who and where is Gruhn's?

jebt - - hey there. Take pictures (lots of them) and post them here.
Yup - - this is a banjo site, but we are "multi-faceted", and can offer
advice about lots of things. I asked the same question 2 years ago.

That was about a Gretsch guitar a coworker of mine inherited.
He ended up selling it for several thousands of dollars, due
to the advice received from here. He knew it was worth something,
but he wasn't sure how much or why, and his family benefited as a
result. The knowledge of the folks here (plus pictures), will help.

I'm considering selling my '61 b15n and '68 vibrolux/reverb as a set.
I wouldn't take less than 4k for the pair.

Gruhn's Guitars in Nashville, for sure. You might want to think about placing them for sale there on consignment.

Thanks to all who responded. I will contact Gruhn's.
This is truly a great site.
