The banjo started out as a homemade instrument, often made from gourds with a tackhead construction. They have a beautiful deep sound, and are beautiful to look at as well. Jeff Menzies has been making gourd, tackehead and minstrel banjos for many years, and known also for his banjo-making workshops.

In this workshop, you will make a gourd banjo from start to finish. No woodworking experience is required - Jeff walks the class through each and every process in great detail.

This class will be held at Matthews Living History Farm Museum, 476 White Pine Rd, Galax.

Register by July 7 for a 10% Earlybird tuition discount.

I'm really  looking forward to this class!

A friend of mine took the same workshop a year or so ago and loved it--he's been making some very cool tackheads and gourd banjos ever since, can't wait to join in the fun...
