I am wondering if anyone on here has this model and if so is there a sound clip of it. Also wondering who else might  play one on  youtube.  I haven't yet called Arthur to ask him who may be playing one, its on my to do list.

The Hatfield website states that Daniel Grindstaff plays a Stony Creek.  It states that he has played for Jesse McReynolds and Marty Rabon.

When I bought my Hatfied Special I never heard a sound clip, I was just going with what people said in here and boy were they right. They are the best banjo out there for the money and Arthur and Bev are the best people in the world. Good luck.

A Stony Creek model is a dressed up Buck Creek simple and plain as you can word. If you want the same sound for 800.00 dollars less you can get a Buck Creek,  If a person must have gold plating a quilted mahogany resonator,   a flying eagle pattern on the fingerboard and a couple more inlays in the peghead then 800.00 more dollars will get that. Engine, transmission and neck wood all the same. Just like a car with no decorations or the same car with all cosmetic decor a big price difference but that is for the individual to decide how they want to spend their money. Just always remember decorations such as quilted, burl and concentric rings,  fancy inlay, abalone, and multiple colored bindings does not make a banjo better just more expensive. Stony Creek and Buck Creek are the SAME banjo, Stony Creek just a dressed up version of the Buck Creek. I have had people call and the first question they would ask would you build me a better banjo if I paid more and my answer is you can pay me all you want to but I cant build you a better one if I could they would ALL be better but I can put more decorations on it if you want to pay a lot more.

Arthur, you and me really gotta talk about your marketing strategy. 

The rest of you:  this is what makes Hatfield banjos so special: it's not just the instrument, it's also the man.  My Hatfield has a lot of custom touches - some purely cosmetic, some not - and yet Arthur still considers it to be a "Special" - a walnut banjo. He even numbered it as such.

Maybe he's right.  All I know is that it speaks to me, it makes me very happy, and no one else would have produced an instrument like this at a price like this.  Hint:  Arthur puts love into everything he builds.  We can argue about gold plating, tone ring alloys and whatnot as much as you wish.  Gibson, during the treasured pre-war era, was simply a factory that caught a wave.  Helluva wave - they set the standard. 

But love:  call me a romantic, but I think you can hear it, and I sure hear it in Arthur's banjos.  At least, I hear it in mine.

And Arthur - my very best to you and Bev. If I'm fortunate, I'll be dropping by in the fall.

Burton Ridge Road is where it's at. I just agreed to purchase what will be my 2nd Hatfield. I got discouraged, and sold the 1st one a few years ago. Now, I'm in for the long haul, and with a Hatfield direct from the location mentioned above. I'm not a kid any more. But, I'm still plenty excited.

Ive decided to finally get a Buck Creek after my stelling sells. ive been threatening for years to do it. I plan it it being the last NEW banjo I buy.....

Thanks Jack. I was fortunate enough to get a Hatfield several years ago. When I came back to playing, or practicing bluegrass, I knew one day I would have another one. I am getting a new one this time. When the Aurora hit the website, it immediately became the one I wanted. I like your avatar, btw.
