Interesting little gadget. I'd love to see this developed for the banjo with a setting to "lock" your preferred tuning into memory. Maybe A-B-C settings for capo use.

Banjos weigh enough as it is.

That would take all the fun out of playing!  We spend lots os time playing that Chinese number "Too Ning" in our jams and it never seems to make much difference!

How long before someone brings out an AUTO-PLAYER then we can just put the banjo on a stand and let it play itself while we dig the weeds or wash the car?

I gotta admit I wouldn't mind my banjo being in tune more. I thought this would be on every guitar when it came out, surprised how slowsly it's caught on.

Learning to tune your instrument correctly was one of the most important lessons developed during my serious study of music. It's essential for ear training in my opinion. It also helps your mind to understand problems at a micro tuning level and helped greatly with an ability to sing on pitch.

I also find in a band setting that I'm tuning not only to the relative pitch of my instrument but the relative pitch of the guitar. You gotta sound good with the other guys in the band and a lot of times that means fractional differences in tuning.

Interesting gadget though.

They tuned mine for me when I bought it, so I'm good to go!

Ever heard of Murphy's Law?  "If something can go wrong, it will"?   For musical purposes you can add to that, "If something can go wrong, it will do so at the worst possible moment.  Usually during a performance."

Plus, learning to rely on a fallible mechanical device for something as intimately involved with music as accurately hearing degrees of pitch strikes me as trying to build a skyscraper by starting in at the 50th floor.

There is nothing a musician needs more than an instrument which he absolutely knows will do the same thing every single time he picks it up.  (Batteries not included.)
