Fig - guessing that they neither have to be registered, insured, nor tagged.  Lots of folks who have otherwise lost their driving privileges utilize them,

They've always been fully licensed here but the electric 2 wheelers pay nothing and register nothing.

It probably varies state by state.  Check the CT DMV.

Amazing - considering how tightly wrapped the laws are in this state.

Put an electric trolling motor on a canoe and you have to register the damn thing....

I had a 50 C Honda Scooter. I sold it to the fire chief...but it had insurance and tags. Registured.

I wish that I had kept it.

An option is to buy an electric bicycle if you are just making quick and short runs. In most states they do not require registration.

Hey Fig,

Up in the Northwest hills, many, many moons ago, during high school, a group of us got mopeds. At that time ('70s") the only rules for riding them was to have a valid drivers' license and wear eye-protection.

We got pulled over by a local cop for terrorizing the town of Winsted...evidently riding on the sidewalks while belting out The Doors at the top of our lungs was not proper moped behavior.

I normally hate just about every Maryland law and would move out of the state if I weren't so far under water with my mortgage but I like the latest motor scooters and modeds law, cited below.  Those things were everywhere in the streets driven by kids cause all sorts of problems.

"On October 1, 2012, new Maryland vehicle laws will take effect that require all motor scooters and mopeds to be titled and insured, while all operators and passengers must wear a helmet and eye protection. All motor scooters must display a title decal on the rear of the vehicle. These new requirements are in addition to the existing law that requires all motor scooter and moped operators to possess a valid driver's license or a moped operator's permit."
