I got this great tune off Snake Chapman's CD, Walnut Gap. It might be called Boatin' up Sandy but it's nothing at all like the usual one! Definitely look it up and hear how a great fiddler makes it sound!
I'm playing both banjo and (yikes!) fiddle here, and experimenting with a home mixer while recording to a laptop - pretty new for me! I blame any mistakes and errors (especially the fumble at the beginning) on that fact ;-)
One point I wanted to make, is how *simple* the banjo part really is. Really I'm skipping many of the notes and more than a few key ones. When I record a solo tune I tend to get all fancy and whatnot, and it's great fun. But with another instrument the banjo can become almost sparse and sound even better. Less is more, usually.

Stefan,
That's a mighty mighty fine recording. The banjo and fiddle sounded marvelous together and really complemented what the other was playing. I sure enjoyed listening to it about 4 times in a row. Great job!

Great to hear this tune - I really love Snake Chapman's fiddle playing and his two cd's on Rounder are a great source for tunes - good job on fiddle and banjo. One of these days I will brave enough to attempt Garfield's Blackberry Blossom!

I'm thrilled to see another post from Snake's Walnut Gap CD. (I've recently been listening to it, also.) You've performed a marvelous duet here. I hear Paul David Smith, the banjo picker who often accompanied Snake, doing 3-finger picking, and find that your clawhammer sound here is most welcome.
