I downloaded some easy Gospel lessons a few hours ago and can already kinda play 2 songs slowly. I was playing one of them and my wife recognized it as a song she used to sing when she was little.

Great!! I am glad they worked out for you. I am guessing these are songs you are already familiar with. It is always easier to start with songs you know than to jump into Remington Ride or some other hot instrumental you have never heard before..

Thanks for mentioning these lessons. I have a 68 year old student that had never played an instrument and wanted to play in church. He lived 100 miles away so he came for a 2 hour lesson once permonth. It took him 6 months to play cripple creek slowly. I did not have much hope he would reach his goal. I put together an easy arrangement to Ill Fly Away that he learned in 2 months. He was able to play in time because the melody was very clear and he knew the melody. I then thought Why not create a series of easy gospel songs. I started writing them and gave him Precious Memories and Cryin Holy he learned and played both within a month each with no help. He has now achieved his goal and has played in both his church and his sisters.
One thing that helped is that there are 4 background tracks for each song. The banjo plays the solo and then goes away while the track continues. This lets the student lock into the solo so that he was in sync for when he played with the band.
The 4 speeds start at 45 bpm which anyone can play. You can hear a preview of the arrangements by clicking the link on the first post.
