Bill: If you're looking for something really close to the banjo part played by Ben Eldrige in the original Mike Auldridge version, I think you'll find it in Tony Trischka's Masters of the Five String Banjo.

If you want to work it for yourself, I'm pretty sure Mike Auldridge's version is in D.

Watch this video from the Mike Auldridge Tribute concert at the Birchmere.  Mike Munford plays the banjo part (because Ben Eldridge fell down coming on stage when the lights were out!).  Anyway, you can hear that Mike M. is going down to a D note at the end of phrases (where the version in this thread goes down to G).  The main verse melody has more of a modal sound. The chorus goes briefly to a more clearly major sound.  Really neat song harmonically.

I had actually called Mike and asked if he had this written out. He told me he had done it back in the seventies just on a whim and never wrote it down. My opinion is Mike did the greatest job on this tune. And the banjo part is terrific too. I don't have the ability to tab that out myself. I do have the tune from Mike. I have Tony's book and it isn't in there.

Yeah the Mike Auldridge version is in D, which is where this tune is mostly played (Doc Watson, Jerry Reed & Chet Atkins).....I wanted to be different and play mine in G.

According to the contents I've seen listed online -- for example, here: hangoutstorage.com/banjohangou...df​ -- "Masters of the 5-String Banjo" includes Tennessee Stud, in the chapter on Ben Eldridge, who played the banjo part on the original Mike Auldridge recording.  Ben and Mike were, after all, bandmates in the Seldom Scene.

Now, if you mean that Masters does not include a banjo tab of Mike's dobro solos, then of course it doesn't.
