Hi, I'm learning "Lost Gander" from the Tab archive but I think it's the only tune in the archive in f#DEAd tuning. Does anyone know any other tunes for that tuning? What style of music is it usually used for?
My 16-year-old daughter is also learning the same tune - as her very first banjo tune. I tried to talk her into something easier but she is stubborn. She's got the makings of a fine folk musician and multi-instrumentalist. Maybe you could also suggest a couple of thumb-lead tunes for her.

I think a lot of tunes in open D (f#DF#AD) and also double D can be played in Lost Gander tuning.

"Little Satchel" works pretty good in this tuning, although I think Fred Cockerham's version may actually be in the Cumberland Gap tuning (f#BEAD)
