This is another of this years batch that just made the trip to Joe Val.
This banjo is built on a matching serial number Gibson rim and resonator, 8823-97, from a 1927 style 3. The rim was cut for a 1 piece flange and a Sloan no-hole tone ring. The resonator was reskinned in the style of the 1930s 3/75. The neck is a matching mahogany that came on another banjo that I bought this year. It is not one of my necks, but is a fine neck in excellent condition that play very well, and is a good match to the resonator.
I have used the Jerry Sloan tone rings on a number of pre-war conversions this year. It is a close match in power, tone and balance to my other favorite tone ring, but it yields just a touch more of the "pre-war" sound on old pre-war Gibson wood. This banjo has new hardware and comes with a Guardian style hardshell case and a guarantee of satisfaction. A professional instrument for $4500...Bill

Bill did this exact setup with my '27 model 3, only with a Danneck no hole tone ring. And to put it bluntly. It's a cannon. Bill's work is right up there with the best of them.
