Wow, looks like USA made Recording Kings are coming soon.
banjohangout.org/topic/251683/1
Major announcement at NAMM, maybe?
With all of the talk on the other thread about their construction, people want to know:
Will these be available direct or through dealers only?
Is the first run spoken for or will some be available soon?

Hey, Mike. On page 4 of that discussion, Greg says:
"Take your pick of either the M-5 or the M-7 for the MAP price of $2995.00 includes a HSC see your authorized Recording King dealer."
And further down the same page, Mark Bramlett of Banjo.com says:
"...we obtained model M-5 serial number 001 and model M-7 serial 001. They will be available for sale at Banjo.com a few days after I pick them up at SPBGMA. The price will be $2995.00. We're proud to represent these new American-made instruments."

Hi Mike and everyone -
For the RK USA pieces, we are only selling these through authorized US dealers.
The Recording King M5 and M7 are now stock, production, US-made pieces. These will be available to order on an ongoing basis similar to our current production models. The Custom Shop will have a very limited number of one-of-a-kind pieces throughout the year.
We often get this question about selling direct, but The Music Link has always protected retailers and our business is still run 100% through stores. We do this for two reasons: 1) so the stores can continue to have unique offerings and always be an important part of their local communities; and 2) so that these instruments can be played and tested before purchase by the eventual owners. No down payment or direct shipping is needed.
We hope the players will support their local stores - I've always felt as a banjoist, supporting your local store is extremely important - especially nowadays!

Can you tell me who the local store is in Wisconsin. If there is not one in Wis, what is the closest to Wisconsin.
Thank You

Nice!! That really shines. I'm not in the market for a new banjo,
but I like the idea of supporting the "local merchant". ![]()

These look great Greg...how many more models are you going to come out with? I also would like to know if you will have an option of getting the M5 with the M7 inlay pattern and the gold plating....another question ....is Elderly Instruments going to get one soon.
mikesven - Posted - 01/12/2013: 06:32:11
Will any of these be making their way up to the Toronto area (Ontario, Canada)? I have been to a few different retailers and they never seem to have Recording King banjos in stock.

WHAT!!!!!! AMERICAN MADE RK'S AT A REASONABLE PRICE?????? "Gull darn it Greg" that is disappointing in a number of ways:
1. Who am I "gonna pick on know"? ![]()
2. You are actually supporting "local merchants"???......................brings tears to my eyes ![]()
3. I may actually have to put you on my Christmas Card list. ![]()
4. I find myself"strangely" interested in playing one of these new American Made RK's (if you send me one I will do a review, like Panky did for ya'll
)
5. I'm not sure my "old heart" can take the surprise of all this new revelation!!!!
I have to go to my room now and meditate...................... Levi

Retailers will be able to see , play and order any of the new USA made banjos at the winter NAMM Show
starting Jan 24th - 27th or they can call their Music Link sales rep and place an order now.
I would say by the first week of February we should be able to post a current list of retailers who will be stocking our USA banjos.
ty3993us
The M-5 & M-7 will be standard production models , however you can email me with any changes you
want to make to a stock model ( Inlay , Engraving , Gold Plating , Binding , Finishing ..etc ) for a quote ,
however it will still have to be purchased thru an authorized Recording King dealer.
Mikesven
Vesna Tomic" <vtomic@axlusa.com> handles international sales , you might want to email her and ask .

Thanks Greg. I am not aware of any dealers in Wis, which if there was one, I would go to. Maybe I will have to go into business. I was hoping to find one to try one of these out.
faulknej - Posted - 01/14/2013: 13:24:30
I think Greg has his CEO hat on instead of his Public Affairs (read: loon)one.
Seriously, I feel really bad about the Elite I'm never going to buy now. The banjo jar just got a lot bigger for that M-7. Cause damn... it's SWEET!
grich - Posted - 01/14/2013: 15:40:17
This USA stuff is going to be a nightmare for me
And answering serious questions about these banjos is really
going to take time away from my cartoon work ! CAUSE DAMN

The RK77 Gold Plated model for MAP price $1899 blows these away. Greg just lowered the price of the american made RK by a grand plus some.
Read here banjohangout.org/topic/261956 Your the best Greg ![]()

Actually NO. The RK gold Elites are MADE IN CHINA completely just as all Elites are and have been. They are ASSEMBLED and setup in California only, thats the only difference.
The M5 and M7 are MADE IN USA, neck, wood rim and resonator completely
Greg clarifies this as well in the linked discussion
Scott
banjotom5 - Posted - 05/03/2013: 18:04:03
The Recording King website is deceptive. The RK77 is not USA recordingking.com/products/ban...-elite-77
grich - Posted - 05/03/2013: 19:00:14
I have to say I kind of agree with you , I think they should have another section to display banjos that are assembled in the USA rather than built in the USA
I'll bring it up to them .....
Greg
BoneDigger - Posted - 05/04/2013: 06:50:52
I would love to have one of the American made Recording King banjos. Unfortunately, my wallet, ad my wife, won't allow it. But, my RK35, regardless of where it was made, is a GREAT sounding banjo!
Todd
teletodd - Posted - 05/06/2013: 19:49:59
Again, I disagree, the website isn't deceptive. What a gorgeous banjo!
The Pope - Posted - 05/07/2013: 10:25:50
Good on you, Greg! Let R-K stand on it's own merits with full disclosure on where it was built or assembled. No worries, you'll sell a bunch...

i can't see what difference it makes, where the parts are built U.S, or China I am sure that the sound won't be any different.

Cabin Hill, thats not going to help the sales of YOUR banjos at all. Greg already publically agrees.
Go back to lurking in the shadows

Which begs the questions:
- What is the problem that needs to be solved?
- What are the deceptive wording practices of Recording King and The Music Link?
- How do you know what Mr. Eklund knows?
