that happen at Old Time jam sessions? Do the strings hold their pitch OK enough after you switch keys or do you have to keep messing with them constantly? Yeah, I know, it's a banjo. But I was wondering if nylguts aren't too much worse than steel strings for keeping in tune at jams? I prefer the nylguts generally but have kept the jam-banjo with steel strings with the idea that they'd be less fickle, but maybe I am wrong? Your experience? Banjered

Once they are stretched in (which takes a long time!) they hold their pitch well even when changing keys.

I agree that Nylguts hold their tuning well after they are stretched. I have had problems breaking the 5th string when retuning it often. Both of my old banjos with Nylguts have spikes at the 7th fret to avoid this problem.

I crank my Nylguts all over the place, MUCH more than I would ever dare for steel strings. They are resilient! And tough, I've tuned from LOW open A (double C style) all the way to open A in straight G style tuning.
I agree, once stretched, they are remarkably stable strings.

The spikes are deadly for Nylguts. There's a capo like this one that can work with Nylguts, or what I do is capo the 4 long strings and retune the 5th.
