Found this on YouTube today. Fantastic picking! No - - Its not bluegrass.
A "blast from the past". 6 minutes and 43 seconds of newgrass at it's best
from a 1974 recording. Butch, Courtney, Curtis, and Sam doing it up "right". ![]()

Flatt and Scruggs used drums from time to time; the Osborne Brothers did, too. Drums are the only thing I hear in this recording that don't always occur in bluegrass but I think this still definitely qualifies as bluegrass---okay, Newgrass; it's all good!![]()

That's the "cool" emoticon from a different site. Not sure of what's being smoked there.
I like
better than
. I guess it's a "don't ask don't tell" situation, eh? ![]()

I remember Louis Armstrong saying on the Brokaw/Pauley Today Show,"I smoke pot every day." and them going immediately to commercials.

That must be the Starday version of "Doin' My Time". I know it was never released (to my knowledge) to the public. Does anyone know if NGR completed a whole album for the Starday Folks? My favorite version of the band was when Courtney Johnson and Curtis Burch were with them.

Butch is playing bass on a couple of the tracks of that Best Of album.

New Grass Revival did a whole Starday album in 1972. I have it on vinyl, but can't seem to find it on the MP3 sites that have a lot of vinyl rips. The "Doin' My Time" cut with Courtney and Robins is from 1974 and not released until a few years ago with the 2CD compilation from Capitol called "Grass Roots the Best of the New Grass Revival". The release has two cuts from the Starday album.

Unbelievable -- that groove is amazing. As much as I've always enjoyed Courtney's playing, my admiration has been growing over the years. Stuff like this blows me away.

What I meant to say was did they ever complete a second album for Starday? I've had the first one for years.
