Those of you who cobble together your own instruments might want to drag them on down to Burnsville NC in November.

Seems that Lucy Doll is trying to organize the first National Trashonal DIY instrument jam and party, the weekend of Nov 17th.

Details are currently scarce, but I'll fill you in as they develop.

Cookie-tin banjos, PVC pipe trombones, gas can mandos, cigar box guitars, et cetera -------whatever you make, bring.

Well golly! That's in my neck of the woods! 2 hours away. The bass player I used to play with lives there!

Keep us posted Mike! Are you going to participate???

I'll be there.  At first I was thinking "What can I bring?  What can I bring?"  Then it hit me:  That teakettle that Mike Gregory modified for me to play like a bugle.  Thanks, Mike!

Mamma don't allow no tea-kettle tooting 'round here.

Which is why the party is going to be there!

Which brings up an interesting question:

What goes over a comb, to improvise a kazoo?

Waxed paper? Tissue paper?

I'm only 26 miles from Burnsville and have several PVC instruments that I've made, two irish whistles, a shakuhachi walking stick, a didgeridoo and an Anasazi end blown flute.

Tissue paper jist gits soggy and don't resonate.  Din't yo' mamma teach you how to make a wax-paper-and-comb kazoo?

One of my favoritest instruments I ever owned was a PVC panpipe (held together by glued-on bamboo strips).  Then one day I left it where the dog could get at it.  sad  Who could have known he liked PVC glue?

I'll be lookin' for ya in Burnsville!
