Well today I braved putting a skin head on a banjo for the 1st time. One head from Stewart Macdonald read the directions, made a brass flesh hoop. Soaked the head in one of my wifes bowls ( she was out ). Then while I was waiting I checked on Youtube and found Richie Dotson video on installing a head. That made the whole thing so much easier it's the old One picture is worth a thousand words. Everything went smoothly now to wait a couple of days and see how it sounds. Stay tuned. Steve

Yep, they're not hard to put on at all in spite of all of the old wives tales that claim otherwise...you'll love the tone you get with a skin head...welcome to the club!

I'm a big fan of skin heads on banjos myself. I put my first one on an old 1890's no name banjo with Nylgut strings. It turned out nicely. Thinking of adding one to my more modern banjo with steel strings. I'd say 24 hours is enough time for it to dry completely for a test drive!

Agreed! That is plenty of time.

I didn't think it would be too hard and it wasn't . I always like the tone of the skin heads. This one is for someone else, I'll probably tighten it up tonight I have some work on the nec to finish before I string it up though. Steve
