Yeah Dave , these 6/8 pieces are always a treat cause ya dont hear much 3 fingered played in this genre.. Those lil chord voicings (double stops) played in rolling trips are my FAV !  Kept the syncopation ever changing as well.cool  More quarters please!!!!!!!!

Enjoyed your interpretation of this familiar tune which comes up at both Celtic and English morris sessions I participate in.

It's often paired with Dingle Regatta, with Dingle usually played first.

Hoorah for technology. Here I sit at my daughters house (in Ft. Pierce,

Florida) some 250 miles from my home and here is Dave Hum and the

rest of you guys. Have to try to pick out those (double stops) that KIDD

mentions. Between the two of you I will be so knowledgeable it frightens

me. Good way to start off the morning...thanks Dave.

Kidd or Dave...help...can you give me the timeline on the seconds bar where

I should be looking.

Harmonics and this cheerful song will send me on my way

Ice cream written on the sign sounds super good today

Your hat has bells that jingle like the coins tossed in your case

Thank you, Mr. David Hum, for the smile across my face   blush

Gee, I used to play this years ago, haven't heard it in years.  It's great to hear this again, you do such a smooth, graceful job with it.  I love the little chord improvisations you subtly slip in there; it is such a joy to hear you pick.

Awesome pickin Dave! Can I be your agent?
On a serious note, I'll bet you'd make a great fiddle player. You've got that timing mechanism in your head that many good fiddlers have....Have you ever tried the fiddle?

Thank you all for your kind comments - and poems Janet!big - I must return the gesture!

This was filmed in Lulworth, Dorset on the south coast of England - a favourite family haunt.

Hi bhniko - "Double Stops" implies paired notes, usually causing a harmony and involving a percussive rhythm -

It is a term often used in fiddling as the bow draws over two strings to add either a drone note ( similar to bagpipes having that constant note running through a melody)

or indeed to add a harmony to the melody - I am guessing that the part that KIDD is referring to is about 1:06 on the timeline where I return to the A part of the melody

and start pinching two strings at a time to add harmony to the melody - I say "pinching" as I am creating the sound of a 3 finger roll using index and middle paired together with the thumb and using HO's and PO's ( Hammer Ons and Pull Offs ) rather than seperate voicings like Earl's rolling - does that make sense?smiley

Hi Royce - I would love to really knuckle down and get into playing the fiddle as I am certainly drawn to instrument and the fact that it compliments a banjo so well with the staccato and sustain friendship -  I play quite a bit of mandolin at home also so I am familiar with some tunes. It's just having the time to fit the practice in - I'm so hooked on the banjo it is difficult to put it down as I am sure you will understand!! shock

The only fiddle in the house at the moment is a tiny beginners one for my daughter - I would love a full size to try!

( I see you have a few fiddles !! shockshockshockcool )

Another brilliant rendition, Dave. I play this on pipes, and am slowly porting some of my pipe tunes over to banjo. In fact, I'll be playing for a Quaker wedding this weekend, so I'll toss this wee jig in with a few others for the stroll. over to the reception.

Hi Klondike

Thank you for your feedback - I often hear pipe tunes and think how great they would sound on a banjo!
