I'm a pinstriper by trade and picker by the grace of god I hope. I want to know if it can be painted on I will be using one-shot enamel.

Why not? If it changes tone too much put a new head on they're cheap. I don't think it will.
I used to make signs in the early to mid 80s before the Gerber came along and ruined the whole industry. One Shot is the best. Post pictures when done.

I don't think you'll have any trouble if you stripe it, I've dyed skin heads and used tinted nitrocellulose lacquer on a ren head didn't effect the tone any. Larry
