Hi all ,

I am a 54 year old noobee I have just purchased my first ukulele banjo to learn on. Can yanyone identify this, its old but all i can afford see pictures

Quite a lot of ukes were marketing with Formby's name on them. I have zero expertise about the field; with any luck, someone will come along who knows better. But I would also advise you to have a look at a Ukulele forum, as they might have more specialist knowledge. Good luck!

This looks like some variation of the "Dallas model A" banjo ukulele.  Check out this site for more information

There are some serious banjo ukulele enthusiasts on ukulelecosmos.com.  You will have to register with them to access their forum, but its not a big deal.  (Be also aware that some characters can be a little cranky and obnoxious, but if you really want to know what you have, it is a good bet someone will sort it out for you on this site.

Rwh56 -- You absolutely nailed it! The members of the ukulelecosmos site have a wealth of information about ukuleles. 

I've recently been informed that I have a very close relative who is some sort of moderator or supervisor or other so-called official on the site and he is extremely knowledgeable about all things ukulele.  He also freely shares this information with others, including me, whether they want it or not.  And, as stated, he is more than a little bit cranky and obnoxious.  And, he is my son and I love him!

T Dennis is correct, as usual, when it comes to banjo ukes.  It's a postwar Dallas A George Formby model.  The badge bearing Formby's likeness was used up until WWII, when production ceased.  The signature models - like this one - were produced post 1947, but I don't know when production ceased.

I'm one of the cranky and obnoxious souls over on the Cosmos, btw!  Frailinaway, who is your son?  I'm pretty sure I know him! :)  It's not a huge group and most members are pretty active.
